FrOGS stands for ‘Friends of Goldstone School’ and is the PTA (Parent & Teacher Association) for Goldstone Primary School. The group comprises parents, carers and teacher/staff volunteers. FrOGS essentially exists for one core purpose: to improve the school experience for every single pupil during their time here. This is done in two main ways: 1) our fundraising provides additional activities and resources that wouldn’t be possible under the school’s normal budget. 2) We operate fun and affordable events for all - mainly for the children to enjoy themselves - with a couple of more adult-focused options!

The FrOGS raise around £14,000 each year and over the years have provided the school with resources including the outdoor gym; climbing wall; computers; picnic benches; wooden gazebo; books; AV equipment; music, PE and stage equipment.

The bulk of our funds currently support a wonderful resource, of which we are very proud at Goldstone: our Living Classroom. We are so fortunate to have the services of our outstanding horticulturalist, Ruth Chalker, who brings the joy of the natural world and gardening to all pupils on a weekly basis. Ruth is currently employed two whole days a week to help maintain and improve the school's extensive outdoor environment, as well as helping to facilitate the school's sustainability curriculum.

Other contributions include leavers’ photos; assistance to a certain red-suited gentleman to provide Christmas gifts to each class; and funds for each year group to choose some additional fun resources. The money raised is therefore instrumental in embellishing the quality of school life for Goldstone's pupils, and its value really can’t be underestimated.

Events include:

  • School Discos - with the Halloween and February Fiesta discos proving a great hit with the children of all ages!
  • Christmas and Summer Fairs - including our famous chocolate and bottle tombolas.
  • Pre-loved Uniform Sales - a popular way to pick up school uniform for less, whilst doing your bit for the environment
  • An annual Quiz evening - hosted by school staff; these are nights of fun for grown-up family members only.
  • Silent Auctions - with fabulous prizes donated by local people and businesses (previous prizes have included huge gigs at Wembley Stadium!)

How to get involved in our 'FrOGS'

We are always looking for new parents, carers and teaching staff to join our band of 'FrOGS'. We hold regular meet-ups and meetings if you are able to commit a few hours per month, but we also welcome any help that can be provided remotely. If you cant find time to attend these meetings but can help in another way such as volunteering at events, planning a particular event, or helping with the uniform sales then please let us know.

Please email us at frogsptagroup@gmail.com to find out more and/or join our happy team!

Other ways to help

Cashback donations

If you are shopping online then you can also contribute through Easy Fundraising. This will cost you no extra, but the retailers who are signed up with Easy Fundraising (over 8,000 sites, including most major supermarkets / electronics / clothing etc, etc) will make a donation on your behalf.

Match Funding

Does your company match-fund fundraising efforts for charitable causes?

Many major companies have schemes that will match the charitable funds raised by their employees up to a certain limit. If this is something that your employer offers and you are able to use this opportunity to help FrOGS, please let us know, so that we can discuss the options with you – frogsptagroup@gmail.com

FrOGS Pantry

The FrOGS Pantry is located by the KS1 entry, and is open for everyone at the start and end of each day, Monday to Friday in term time. It stocks uniform, shoes and coats as well as food and other household essentials.

We run on the premise, Take what you need, give what you can. Should you wish to donate, please bring your donations to the office. We request only food, household products and good quality uniform, coats and shoes (uniform is ideally donated on the first Monday of the month, anything else can be dropped off any time).

The FrOGS also hold regular uniform sales in the main hall - see the Ping calendar for details. There is no “price list”, but should you wish to leave a donation, we can accept cash and card/phone payments.

As well as ad-hoc donations of goods, some parents also choose to support the Pantry by making a regular monthly donation via their bank. This goes directly to acquiring those products most needed, sourced by our Pantry managers. Please get in touch if you’d like information on how to set up a regular donation, however big or small: frogsptagroup@gmail.com
