Stearman Cup Finalists - and winners yet again!
Will we retain the cup? That was question we were all thinking at the beginning of the Stearman cup final, 2025.
In a cracking, very competitive first half against Cottesmore, things were very tight until Ellis put Goldstone ahead with 5 minutes to go in the first half.
In the second half our Goldstone Boys team defending extremely well with the game ending 1-0 to Goldstone.
Congratulations to all our team, especially Jack who was awarded player of the match by the organisers.

Girls Roxboro cup vs Stanford - 9th May
Another thrilling game for the girls!
Both teams came out strong, battling hard to break the deadlock early on. Stanford struck first, but Goldstone hit back quickly with a fantastic equaliser from Valentina. As the first half ticked down, Stanford managed to sneak in another goal—but in true Goldstone style, we responded right on cue. Valentina again found the net, showing great composure and flair. The first half ended 2-2, and you couldn’t split the sides.
In the second half, Goldstone edged into control and pushed hard for the win, but the Stanford keeper and a couple of stubborn goalposts kept us out. Despite the pressure, we just couldn’t find the winner.
Full-time: 2-2. So it was down to penalties.
We’ve had a tough run with shootouts this season—three losses already—and heartbreakingly, this one followed the same script. The girls gave it everything, but Stanford edged it 4-3 on penalties.

Girls 7-aside Roxboro Cup
Our girls yellow team played in the Roxboro cup against Brunswick. They played brilliantly, in a close 0 - 0 first half. Maebth making 2 huge saves to stop them taking the lead and Phoebe and Valentina coming close to scoring only for their keeper to make the save and an effort narrowly going wide.
Second half, we continued our wicked display, showing skills and teamwork to prevent them from scoring and putting pressure on them. Alena driving in from the wing to take off a strong shot only to be saved off the line by a Brunswick defender, but luckily for us it parried in to the path of Phoebe who smashed it first time to the back of the net. Goldstone were then looking stronger than ever and with seconds to go we were feeling positive, but with less than 5 seconds to go Brunswick equalised. Final score 1 - 1.
We know what comes next, our nemesis - penalties.
All the penalty takers and the two goal keepers were very brave and stood up confidently to do what was needed.

Brighton & Hove Yellow League
On Friday the 29th of November our boys' and girls' Yellow teams travelled to Lancing Prepatory School to play in their respective leagues.
Girls' Yellow
Goldstone started very strong with a quick goal from Vale courtesy of a brilliant assist from Ava. Not long after came another Goldstone goal, this time from Romy after an assist from Vale. Winnie then made the most of a goalie error and slotted the ball into the back of the net. Just before half time Goldstone were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Vale stepped up and with cool, calm finesse she made sure it went top bins - even Mary Earps wouldn't have saved that!
On to the second half, moments in Vale dribbled past 4 players and executed a great strike to hit the back of the net once more. Hat trick! Feeling unstoppable by this point, Mabel dribbled down the wing and sent a perfect cross in Ava's direction, a tap in from Ava meant another goal for Goldstone. Not content with just a hat trick, Vale kept pushing for her fourth goal of the game. It came via a strike from outside the box that the keeper couldn't quite get to. Alena then switched to playing up front with some clear instructions. These clearly paid off as within 30 seconds of coming back on she'd scored her first goal of the game. The game ended with a beautiful volley over the keeper from Alena to make the final score 0 - 9.
Boys' Yellow
The game did not start in Goldstone's favour as we went 1- 0 down after the ball hit the corner post and bounced back in, Lancing Prep crossed the ball into the box and tapped it in. The second goal of the game also came from Lancing, we passed the ball across our box but their striker executed a great tackle and scored. In the second half Goldstone won a corner, Austin hit the ball into the box and a first touch from Jack went into the top corner. Goldstone found their rhythm and not long after, Elliot sent another corner into the top bins with a volley. The score was even. In the final minutes of the game, Rudy pounced on loose ball from the keeper and tapped it in! Final score 2 - 3!

Whilst the game was meant to be 9v9 we started the game with only 8 players on the field due to traffic. Despite this, Goldstone started strong scoring in the first couple of minutes. A wonderful cross came in straight to Nate's feet and he had no problem volleying it in. We continued the fine form and not longer after there was another goal, this time score by Elliot. A lovely ball was passed through to him which he gracefully slid into the far corner.
In the second half Orchard had a few chances and put some pressure on us, however our captain Jack made it 3 - 0 with a great strike from distance.
Both teams played in great sprit. Well done to the boys who now progress on to the next round.

On Tuesday the 8th of October both of the Goldstone Yellow teams travelled to St. Andrews to play their first league game. The excitement and anticipation was high and the teams were raring to play.
The girls' game started with both teams looking evenly matched and both struggling to maintain possesion. After 20 minutes it was 0 - 0. A half time team talk changed Goldstone's dynamic; they listened to the advice they were given and made some changes to their play. Within 2 minutes it was 1 - 0, thanks to a lovely throw in from Phoebe which was pushed into the goal by Romy. Moments later, another quick throw in followed by some fantastic passing led to a beautiful volley over the keeper from Vale. Every single player pushed hard and kept their work rate high to ensure that St. Andrew's were unable to find the back of the net. Another 2 goals from Vale took us to 4 - 0. A last minute free kick just outside the area allowed St Andrew's to get a well-deserved goal, making the final score 4 - 1 to Goldstone.
The boys' game was incredibly close with both teams battling to score but with little success due to some excellent defending and goal keeping. At half time it was 0 - 0 despite some incredible effort from both teams. The second half was very similar to the first, but luck was on our side as the ball landed by Albi's feet on the 6 yard line. A quick turn and a great strike allowed him to find the back of the net! It turned out to be the only goal of the game, making the final score 1 - 0 to Goldstone.

Sheffield Schools' FA v Brighton & Hove Schools' FA - ESFA Champions' Cup Plate Final 2024
A huge well done to ex-Goldstone pupils: Lia, Tilly Georgia and Clemence who won the East Sussex Football Association plate final. An amazing come back from 3-0 down to show true courage, resilience and determination to get back to 3-3 then a last minute equaliser to make it 4-4 and take it to penalties. The Goldstone sports team are very proud of all of the players on the Brighton and Hove Schools' team but a special shoutout to Clemence who captained the team, Lia who scored an insanely impressive hat-trick, Georgia who defended incredibly well and Tilly who played fantastically well!

Withdean Athletics Competition
On Thursday the 20th of June, a group of athletes from Year 4, 5 and 6 travelled to Withdean Stadium to take part in the Brighton and Hove Schools Athletics competition. 24 schools took part with a total of 963 athletes. The sun was shining and there was a tension in the air, could we retain our title of Leaders of the Red Division? Every single runner, jumper and thrower did us proud. We weren't able to retain the red division trophy but we were incredibly proud to have come second to Balfour by 1 point!

Stearman Cup: Goldstone Boys' Yellow vs Hove Juniors
On the 17th of June Goldstone played in the Stearman Cup Final against Hove Juniors. We played them in the league drawing 1-1 in an exciting game. So the final wasn't going to disappoint. The first half the boys looked slow and not switched on but defending well and created some chances, Hove were on top, which paid off as they took a 1-0 lead. We then defended most the first half. Second half was a different Goldstone, we pushed forward and had chance after chance, their keeper making some brilliant saves. Lennie then manged to steal the ball dribble past a played to slot the ball home. The whistle blew and the final score was 1-1.
That could only mean one thing: extra time Goldstone played very well but couldn't find the back of the new. Knowing that penalties were coming up, the nerves were kicking in.
Penalties:
Goldstone - Vinnie GOAL - slotted the ball to the keeper's right.
Hove Juniors - Miss - over the top of the woodwork
Goldstone - Freddie GOAL - smashed the ball down the middle.
Hove - Miss - a fantastic save from Jack.
Goldstone win on penalties.

KS1 Intra-Hockey
On Friday the 14th of June, our Year 1 & 2 pupils enjoyed an afternoon of playing hockey in our intra hockey competition. All teams played incredibly well and showed great sportspersonship. The final saw Henry and Biles competing for victory, with Henry winning 3-2!

County Cup Plate: Goldstone Boys' Yellow vs Orchard
On the 14th of June, our boys were back on the road, to Orchard this time, for the County Cup Plate. After the last result in the County Cup, they were up for trying their hardest. We started slow and looked tired in the first half creating minimal chances and the host taking the lead. Jack made some super saves and defence, crucial tackles. Second half came and during the break Ben had said he can't score but within 5 minutes of the second half he scored a sensational half volley from outside the area, to the top corner. 1-1. The rest of the game was played with Goldstone having more chances. Extra time: we scored in the first half thanks to a lovely goal from Otis. We held out to win in extra time. On to the semi-finals.

County Cup: Goldstone Girls' Yellow vs Balfour
On the 6th of June the girls played in the county cup against Balfour (also from Brighton and Hove). We have played each other a number of times this year in tournaments and knew it was going to be a tough game. The sun was shining and the girls were up for a tough game. It was an incredible game to watch. Both teams' defensive line-up was fantastic. Willow put us ahead with a fantastic shot that surprised the keeper at the near post. The second half came, Molly made an incredible save only for the follow up to be bundled over the line by Balfour. With only minutes left Daisy made a darting run back to recover the ball and make a last ditch tackle, only for the clearance to roll in to our net. Very unlucky.
A fantastic game of football from both teams. Final score: 2 - 1 to Balfour.
Stearman Cup (7-a-side): Goldstone vs Bilingual
On the 24th of May, our boys' Yellow Team played in the Stearman Cup semi-final (7-a-side) at home against Bilingual. The first fifteen minutes of the match was full of hope for both teams with them being very evenly matched. However, Xavier made an excellent strike which the Bilingual goalkeeper couldn't keep out of the net. Shortly after our goal Bilingual equalised from a corner.
At half time it was 1 - 1.
In second half, Bilingual were full of passion and had a couple of good chances but a combination of great communication and defending meant that they were unable to find the back of our net. Goldstone also had some excellent chances but wonderful goalkeeping from Bilingual meant we were denied every time.
A final whistle draw in the semi-final meant only one thing: extra time. Goldstone came out with an incredibly sense of determination and Otis found the back of the next within minutes. Jack made some wonderful saves in extra time which mean the final score was 2 - 1 to Goldstone.
The team will be progressing into the Stearman Cup final which will be played at Patcham High School!

Year 3 & 4 Intra Hockey
On the 24th of May, our Year 3 & 4 pupils enjoyed an afternoon of playing hockey in our intra hockey competition. All teams played incredibly well and showed great sportspersonship. The final saw Farah and Quinn competing for victory, with Farah winning 1-0!

Boys' Football County Cup: Round 1 vs Heron Way
On the 21st of May, the boys played their first County Cup match away to Heron Way. After a nice 45 minute drive across Sussex, we turned up and played straight away. The boys started well, passing the ball around the team; but after 10 minutes everything turned. We conceded the first goal which was followed by 2 more which meant we were 3-0 down at half time. Jack played superbly which kept the score down, because it could have easily been 10-0 in the first half.
The second half didn't get better as we conceded another 7 goals. The boys never gave up trying to score and it paid of with Vinnie slipping a through ball to Otis who calmly slotted it home.
Final score: 10 - 1 to Heron Way.

On the 14th of May, our girls' Yellow Team played in the Roxboro Cup (9-a-side) at home against St. Luke's. The first five minutes of the match was full of hope for both teams with them being very evenly matched. However, Daisy then scored a great goal which seemed to help Goldstone find their form. From that point they were unstoppable. Moments later, Coco scored via a volley over the keeper. Just before half time, Willow seemed to effortlessly dribble the ball from one end of the pitch to the other and then execute a wonderful strike. At half time it was 3 - 0 to Goldstone.
In second half, St. Luke's were full of passion and had a couple of good chances but a combination of great communication and defending meant that they were unable to find the back of our net. There were two more goals for Goldstone: one from Jasmine and another from Sienna. Final score 5 - 0 to Goldstone.
The team will be progressing into the semi-finals and will be playing either Downs Juniors or Brunswick.

Goldstone v Cottesmore 0 - 1: End to end kind of game, the game could have gone either way.
Goldstone v Ocklynge 2 - 3: Willow scored 2 beauiful long range strikes. We were unlucky not to manage a draw as we hit the cross bar and posts a few times towards the end of the game.
Goldstone v West Park 0 - 0: Similar to our first game - two very well matched teams.
Goldstone v Southover 0 - 1: A tough game but we battled well, keeping it 0 - 0 for majority of the game.
Goldstone v St Thomas A Becket 2 - 1: Our best game of the tournament, the girls were determined to get a win and they did by dominating their final game. Goal scorers were Jasmine and Willow.
The girls should be incredibly proud of themselves. They battled in every game and never gave up.

Goldstone v Glyndridge House 0 - 0: Tough game full of first game nerves.
Goldstone v Cottesmore 2 - 1: Last minute winner, scored by Ben, with Otis also scoring early on in the match.
Goldstone v North Lancing 1 - 2: Great game to watch. Scorer Otis.
Goldstone v Blackboys 2 - 1: A must win game, Goldstone leaving it late again with great strikes from Ben and Vinnie.
Goldstone v Summerlea 1 - 1: Goal scored by Vinnie and the result was just about enough to get us past the group stages.
On to the semi-final playing the winner of group 1, Maidenbower - (a team who hadn't conceded a goal or lost all tournament). We got off to a bright start showing some good attacking moments. However Maindenbrower scored from a corner. The Goldstone boys didn't give up and straight away scored from a corner, taken by Vinnie and scored by Xavier. But sadly, heartbreak was about to happen as Maidenbower pushed for a winner. They scored with not long left of the game. Goldstone then looked the better team and forced the Maidenbower keeper to make a couple of excellent saves. Final score: Goldstone 1 & Maidenbower 2.

Goldstone Primary School's Year 5/6 Athletes Triumph at County Quad Kids Athletics Event
Date: June 29, 2023
Our Year 5/6 athletic team achieved a resounding victory (bagging gold medals) at the highly anticipated county Quad Kids athletics event held at the K2 in Crawley today. Demonstrating exceptional talent and unwavering determination, the young athletes left onlookers in awe as they dominated the competition (of 11 other schools) across various disciplines.
With teams from schools across the county converging at the prestigious venue, Goldstone stood out with their professional performances and team spirit. The Quad Kids format, which features four events—75m sprint, 600m run, vortex throw, and long jump—required them to showcase their versatility and all-round athletic abilities, which they did with aplomb.
Huge thanks to Mr Hurley, Mx Leon-Cutler and Kylie Grice for their encouragement and training in the build-up to and also during the event!

Sportscool Cup: Semi-final Downs Junior vs Goldstone
On a very warm Friday the 23rd of June of Year 5/6 girls team travelled to Manor Gym to play in the Sportscool Cup semi-final. We were playing against a very strong team from Downs Juniors; a team we've yet to win against this season. We knew it would be a tough game and the heat wasn't going to help. A few tactial line-up changes from the first whistle made a big difference and at half time it was 2-1 courtesty of a stunning volley from Beau and a confident close-range strike from Rosie. Our shot-stopper supreme, Molly, made some fantastic saves which made it difficult for Downs Juniors to score. The second half saw Beth find the back of the net twice with two fantastic strikes. Final score 4 - 1
Player of the match goes to Bea for a truly sensational perfectly-timed tackle to prevent a goal just before the half time whistle.

Squires - The Sporting Superstar!
Thomas Squires, in Year 6, has had an incredible time playing football recently. He has been doing some amazing work with Brighton & Hove Albion in the Community. For the past few years he has been working hard on the development pathways, which are run by the England FA Para Football. The programme, aimed at a variety of disability classifications, effectively takes young players from the local development hubs, through regionals and ultimately leading to players representing England.
Also, as a once in a lifetime treat from Albion in the Community, he was invited to play on the pitch at the AMEX on the 26th of May!
A HUGE congratulations to Thomas on his success with the Para Football Team!

Primary Stars U11's Girls National Finals at Elland Road
On a freezing cold day at Elland Road in Leeds, our under 11's girls team took on the tremendous challenge of taking part in the National Finals. They would be competing against 19 of the best teams in England.
Our first group game was against Burton Albion who played incredibly well but unfortunately for them, Willow found the back of the net twice making the final score 2 - 0 to Brighton and Hove Albion.
The next group game was against Bolton Wanderers, once again Brighton and Hove Albion won 2 - 0 courtesy of goals from Josie and Beth.
Our third group game was against Queens Park Rangers, we managed to hit pretty much every part of the woodwork, but just couldn't find the back of the net. Final score: 0 - 0
The last match of the group stages was against AFC Wimbledon, an early own-goal from us put us behind, but the team kept their heads up and scored two amazing goals courtesty of Willow and Josie resulting in a 2 - 1 victory.
We finished top of our group with a whopping 10 points!
The semi-final saw us playing a very skilled Wigan Athletic, but some superb marking from Bea and Beth meant they were unable to find thier stride; this combined with two beautiful strikes from Beau saw us marching in to the final via a 2 - 0 win.
Finally, the moment we'd all been dreaming of, we reached the final. Between us and the trophy stood one very talented Manchester United team. We knew the top goal scorer of the competition so far was on their team, so it would definitely be a challenge. However, our defenders were impeccable and Beau managed to find the back of the net meaning the final score was 1 - 0 to the mighty GOLDSTONE.
They are now the Under 11 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!
