Year 3 Examples of Work
Autumn Term 21
This half term Year 3 have been exploring light and shadows in science and learning what the dark is. They have had great fun investigating how their shadows changed through the day.
In literacy they have been writing the opening of a mystery story, creating atmosphere and tension. Here are a few examples of their wonderful writing.
Daisy
Outside the wind was blowing wildly, thunder exploded out of the clouds and the moon and stars could hardly be seen. She slowly walked over the cracked bridge and quickly put her winter coat on. As she jogged into the rainy night, she heard a growling by the tree in the distance. She cautiously walked over to the strange sound.
Suddenly, she found herself on the watery ground. Soon she opened her eyes and saw a strange creature grabbing her shirt and pulling a strange object out of its pocket…
George
Outside it was deafeningly quiet, steam filled the air and the full moon was almost completely covered by clouds. She shivered quickly as she passed the abandoned superstore and carefully put on her hat. As she ran in to the boring night, she saw a tiny shining light behind the big rock. Carefully, she crept foolishly towards it…
Suddenly she found herself on the misty path, feeling dizzy and dazed. Eventually, she got up but saw the shining again. She had the urge to touch it but then a shadow caught her. A lump filled her throat, her breath quickened and she felt like shouting but no noise came out.
Phoebe
Outside, it was freezing cold, thunder boomed loudly and bats flew through the moon. She shivered sacredly as she passed the haunted graveyard and quickly put her umbrella over her head. Amazingly, she crept in to the sneaky night and saw a flash in the brambly bushes up ahead.
Suddenly, she found herself lying on the smelly road. She felt sleepy and confused. Eventually, she opened her eyes and was shocked to find a weird dark figure behind her. She shivered, her teeth tightened and she froze as still as a statue.
Eric
In the gloomy forest, rain hailed tiles off the cabin’s roof and the light moon shone through the dark clouds. He ran nervously passed the crooked house and yanked his hood up to keep him safe. As he plodded in to the horrible night, he heard a twig snap behind the trees up ahead. Quietly, he tiptoed towards the snapping sound…
Suddenly, he found himself on the soggy ground. Eventually, he gazed up at a dark person leaning gradually over him. Then he saw a glimmering in his pocket. He gritted his teeth and waited for the end.
