Spelling at Goldstone

Moving on from phonics, spelling is a key area of learning that you can support your child with at home as well.

Spelling requires consistent practice and we achieve this in school by delivering multiple spelling lessons a week, setting spelling homework and allowing time to practise spelling in fun and engaging ways.

For Year 1 and Year 2 spelling expectations see the ‘Phonics’ page on our website.

In Key Stage 2, your child will be taught, and are expected to be able to spell, the following words based on their year group.

Supporting your child at home

We have a great range of resources that we use in school and that you can access to help your children practise their spellings.

Along with your child's weekly spelling homework, they can continue their practise using the websites and strategies below.

Spelling Shed

Spelling Shed (https://www.spellingshed.com/en-gb/) is a fun game-based app that provides children the opportunity to consolidate their weekly spellings. Each child will have their own login, please contact your child's class teacher for this information.

Spelling Strategies

The Golden Spelling Document (attached below) is a fantastic resource full of multi-sensory and non-screen based ways in which your child can practise their spellings.

Spelling Frame

Spelling Frame (https://spellingframe.co.uk/) - this website offers activities for spellings from high frequency words in Key Stage 1 to the words from the curriculum lists in Key Stage 2.

Sir Linkalot

Sir Linkalot (app.sirlinkalot.org) is a great resource that is full of engaging videos, quizzes and crosswords that all aid children in remembering a wide selection of spellings.

In order to access Sir Linkalot at home, you can use our school 2021/2022 access code: Goldstone2021/22

In November 2021, we were lucky enough to have Sir Linkalot himself visit our school! Check out the video to learn more about his visit.
